Dx = 10/2009     Rx = 300mg Gleevec for the last 6 weeks'; first test tomorrow

For the benefit of yourself and others please add your CML history into your Signature

02/2010 Gleevec 400mg

2011 Two weakly positives, PCRU, weakly positive

2012 PCRU, PCRU, PCRU, PCRU

2013 PCRU, PCRU, PCRU, weakly positive

2014 PCRU, PCRU, PCRU, PCRU (12/07 began dose reduction w/each continuing PCRU)

2015 300, 250, 200, 150

2016 100, 50/100, 100, 10/17 TFR

2017 01/17 TFR, 04/18 TFR, 07/18 TFR 0.0012, 08/29 TFR 0.001, 10/17 TFR 0.000

2018 01/16 TFR 0.0004 ... next quarterly PCR 04/17

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.

In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.

longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation.   GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.

Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams

Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.

3 months, 600mg Tasigna. No idea what my FISH or PCR is. Still waiting on result. The waiting is going to kill me I think. All I think about is this damn test, is the drug working is in not working. Argh!

I had a terrible childhood now have a family of my own. Son is only twelve. All I want is to live long enough to see him marry and have a family of his own. Is 12 too early to marry and have kids! :)

Heck no as long as he has a good job, and he and his wife raise their children. not grama and grampa!

There are a couple of members around that have been on Gleevec from when it was created. If you've looking for them you might want to start a new thread with a direct question. :)

No questions, it just feels good to a newbie to hear from people that have had it for a long time. Gives me hope I can make it a long time as well.

The main issue may come up as to what the long term effects are from the TKIs.

I agree rcase. It's like hearing long term success stories, makes you believe in the treatment.

Hi to the newbie! I'm a newbie to the forum, but not to CML. I was diagnosed November 2010. Fortunately my CML was caught very early. I went in for my yearly physical and my white blood cell count was elevated a bit. He thought I was probably fighting off an infection. Went back 6 weeks later and my WBC count was through the roof. Sent to an oncologist and a bone marrow biopsy confirmed CML. I immediately started Gleevec 400mg. I was terrified of taking it! My son was 13 months old at the time and I was teaching full time. I had only 3 months of side effects, which were pretty mild over all. Honestly, I don't know if they were side effects from the Gleevec or just the CML in general. I had some light-headedness, feeling shaky early morning, and low energy. I have always worked out 5 to 6 days per week and pretty rigorous workouts at that. By February I was feeling like myself again! I got back into working out too! I truly believe that staying active, working out, continuing to work, not dwelling on the CML, makes a big difference in how your body responds to the medication. Also, my faith is strong. I am a believer in Jesus. I am surrounded by family and friends who pray for me. I have no doubt that God's provision has been a huge part of my success with Gleevec.
I am doing well today. I just had my 4th bone marrow biopsy and I'm waiting for the results. My FISH test has come back negative the past 3 times, but my PCR has shown mild elevation. I'm praying the results of the bone marow biopsy are great and I can continue on the Gleevec because it works for me.
You have a lot to live for and your 6 year old twins need you! Stay positive and active!

Living for Him.

Gee, Hi everyone!!!

Haven't been on here in a very long time but thought I would check in.  Let's see, I've been LIVING with CML since March of 2007.  On Gleevec for 3? yrs and Sprycel every since.  A few "speed bumps" along the way but basically been cruisin' along pretty good and in PCRU (remission) solidly (no bouncing in and out) for probably at least 3 years.  Honestly, been doing so well in that department I lost track.  BETTER LIVING THRU MODERN CHEMISTRY! :D

Dxd 2007

started on Gleevec switched to Sprycel 100mg in 2009

PCRU since 2011

20mg Sprycel every other day since Dec. 2014

Since I will be hitting 16 years on gleevec this year, I guess that makes me an ancient 'old timer' .
