Gleevec 400mg 30-day Rx Price (in round numbers)

10/2009 $3900

02/2010 $4300

06/2013 $6900

12/2013 $7500

03/2014 $8200

02/2010 Gleevec 400mg

2011 Two weakly positives, PCRU, weakly positive

2012 PCRU, PCRU, PCRU, PCRU

2013 PCRU, PCRU, PCRU, weakly positive

2014 PCRU, PCRU, PCRU, PCRU (12/07 began dose reduction w/each continuing PCRU)

2015 300, 250, 200, 150

2016 100, 50/100, 100, 10/17 TFR

2017 01/17 TFR, 04/18 TFR, 07/18 TFR 0.0012, 08/29 TFR 0.001, 10/17 TFR 0.000

2018 01/16 TFR 0.0004 ... next quarterly PCR 04/17

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.

In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.

longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation.   GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.

Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams

Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.

That is horrible.  What kind of insurance do you have.  We are laying out a lot of money because my husband and I both take a lot of medication.  They told me today, that when we have spent a total of $6000.00 for the both of us, as each one of us has to reach $3000.00 each that all our medication will be paid for the rest of the year.  We spend too much, but we do not come close to that amount for each of us.

when I went to fill my first script in Oct of 2009 I was told by the pharmacist that I had to use the specialty pharmacy listed on the back of my card. I said just fill it this time and I'll do that next time. then he handed me a piece of paper and said this is what it will cost you here $4616. then he faxed ,y script off to cvs caremark for me and helped me get the ball rolling. now I have curascript and they are billing my insurance $6895 on top of my $30 copay

it's kind of funny that my receipt from curascriot says copay received $30 success. amount due from insurance $13790.

Susan, I have a Medicare Advantage Plan through Kaiser ... my out of pocket co-pay began the year at $20; today's fill was $10, likely due to having blown through the donut hole.  Medicare patients are charged the highest prices in the world for Rx drugs, the bill falling on the shoulders of the taxpayers.

Gleevec was first patented in 2001; the patent has been ever-greened and is now due to expire in the U.S. in 2015 (to the best of my knowledge).  India prevailed against Novartis's attempt to ever-green the patent and Gleevec is now $560/mo there

Sprycel is more than 1.6 times as expensive as Gleevec, as of 4 months ago.

? $360 per 100mg pill of Sprycel.

Insurance copay = $25 per 30 pills, for both drugs.

Chris, any idea as to the price of Tasigna?  Noticed it was first patented in mid-2010.

That's how ours was Jan. 2013, then by July 2013 it went up to $10,000. This year it was $10,000. out of pocket and we just met it. I think with a CML diagnosis should come some financial counseling. Novartis was helping us but that's run out. We will be ok the rest of the year since the deductible has been made, but come Jan. 2015 I start looking for help again. The financial impact on us is my #1 stress regarding my CML. Sometimes I struggle with when is enough?

Hi Buzz:  I am not on Medicare yet, because I am covered under my  husbands insurance.  We were just talking about that stupid Donut Hole.  How do they expect people to survive when they are on Medicare and retired to pay out these horrible prices, and where do they get the money to do it.

I am getting a 90 day supply of my Gleevec now for $112.00, but I used to pay $80.00 for a 90 day supply 2 years ago.

My husband has a lot of health problems, but he pushes himself to get to the job everyday.  It makes me feel so bad that he cannot stop working.  He did just sign on to get his SS early at 62 just to give us a bit more money to survive.

If it were just me with the CML, we could probably do better.  ITs the two of us with serious health issues.

I just pray a lot for us and everyone else who is going through this.

Susan

I am on Tasigna and the price is $8,600 for a 4 week supply before insurance.  Fortunately, my insurance copay is $50 per 4 week supply.

Tasigna was patented in 2003 according to http://www.drugbank.ca/drugs/DB04868

I am in the same boat as IGotCML... 30-day supply is over $8,000, but insurance picks up all but $50 copay. I just heard from the specialty pharmacy today. While I was initially relieved, I am still infuriated! That is a ridiculous price and what the hell are people without insurance supposed to do?! Pham companies are just disgusting.

For the most part, Americans pay the highest Rx drug prices in the world .  the bill falls on the backs of the taxpayers ... lobbying in Washington DC ... http://www.opensecre...i&showYear=2013

no surprise who ranks #1

My insurance company is billed $9948.96 for a 28 day supply of tasigna.  They write it down by $1182.69 and pay the difference.  I pay nothing after I meet our family deductible of $7,000 for the year.  I am just hoping that deductible doesn't skyrocket when our insurance renews on August 1!

A one day supply is four pills, so it's over $355 per day but 1/4 that amount per pill. :-)
