I will be having a partial hysterectomy on Sept. 6th due to them finding a large mass on left ovary.  My gynocoloigist thinks is it a very large cyst but wants it out so it doesn't burst.  It has grown alot since last ultrasound 6 months ago.  I hope it's not cancer, I can't deal with any more.  I am so scared about this surgery.  It will be done the laproscopic way unless he has to cut on the side of the mass.  My anxiety level was getting better with a new med called Buspar but it's going back up real quick.  Do I have a higher chance of infection with having CML?  My blood counts are still all good and still PCRU that I know of.  PCR test is next month.  Would appreciate any good thoughts sent my way please.

Hi, Dee.  Sending good energy your way......you will do this well and then wonder how you did it so well.  ;). That is what happens to me......I get through a situation and wonder how I did it!!!!!!!   Maybe that's when God carries me!  All the best, you'll be so happy when it is all over and you feel good!  Lala

Dee,

I hope all goes well for you. As long as your counts remain good you are at no more risk of infection than someone without CML.

Good luck!

Dee,

I will be having you in my thoughts on the 6th.  I am an operating room nurse and since I have seen these surgeries many times, I know you are in good hands.  Let us pray it is a cyst, that is the best opinion.  As for infections, most hospitals follow the antibiotic protocol within one hour of incision.  This has been know to decrease infection rates.

Keep us informed of your outcome.

Dee, I'm really hoping you will be ok. I've just been in the hospital today, they think I may have (or had ruptured) cysts on my ovaries too. At first they thought it was kidney stones because of the pain severity, but now they think it might be cysts. I think the chances of it being cancerous are very low for both of us, but I do wonder if this has something to do with our treatment/diagnosis or just would have happened anyway - if only to know what to expect down the track. I wish you a speedy recovery and will be thinking of you on September 6.

Diagnosed 9 June 2011, Glivec 400mg June 2011-July 2017, Tasigna 600mg July 2017-present (switched due to intolerable side effects, and desire for future cessation attempt).

Commenced monthly testing when MR4.0 lost during 2012.

2017: <0.01, <0.01, 0.005 (200mg Glivec, Adelaide) <0.01, 0.001 (new test sensitivity)

2016: <0.01, <0.01, PCRU, 0.002 (Adelaide)

2015: <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, 0.013

2014: PCRU, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01

2013: 0.01, 0.014, 0.016, 0.026, 0.041, <0.01, <0.01

2012: <0.01, <0.01, 0.013, 0.032, 0.021

2011: 38.00, 12.00, 0.14

Dee, glad you checked in.  I've been thinking about you.  I posted to you about this earlier.  My sister had one of these cysts that went cyanotic and burst (or started leaking) at work.   I know you fear the worst, but it CAN be just a cyst.  Wishing you the best, and please let us know what happens when you can.

I've had laparoscopic surgery, too.  It's much easier to recover from than open abdominal surgery.  They can do an amazing amount through a few tiny cuts.  Expect to be achey though, and possibly bloated for awhile.  They often use CO2 to insufflate (blow you up like a balloon) so they can get a little more room to work around.  Afterward, most people feel pain in their shoulder as the gas dissipates.  Anyway, expect 3-7 days of good achiness.  You'll likely be moving slowly.  If possible, try to have someone help with things like making dinner.  You'll want to rest.

Best wishes,

Traci

Hi Dee:  My prayers are with you, and I do believe that all will go well for you.  I also do not think you have to worry about infections or your counts.

Please let us know how you do with the surgery when you feel up to it.

God Bless and Take Care

Susan
