Hey guys, just wondering if I could get some feedback about colds and flu.

I've got a mild cold at the moment - doesn't seem too bad for now but I'm curious about whether I need to see a doc or not.

Do people tend to go to the doctor every time you are sick - or just when you have a fever?

Diagnosed 9 June 2011, Glivec 400mg June 2011-July 2017, Tasigna 600mg July 2017-present (switched due to intolerable side effects, and desire for future cessation attempt).

Commenced monthly testing when MR4.0 lost during 2012.

2017: <0.01, <0.01, 0.005 (200mg Glivec, Adelaide) <0.01, 0.001 (new test sensitivity)

2016: <0.01, <0.01, PCRU, 0.002 (Adelaide)

2015: <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, 0.013

2014: PCRU, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01

2013: 0.01, 0.014, 0.016, 0.026, 0.041, <0.01, <0.01

2012: <0.01, <0.01, 0.013, 0.032, 0.021

2011: 38.00, 12.00, 0.14

The only time I go see the doctor is if I develop some chest congestion, cough, and a high fever.  Good subject, because we are getting into that season where people do not know if they should be getting the FLU Vaccine around October and the Pneumonia Vaccine.  I got both of them together last year, and I was deathly sick for days, even though there is no active virus in the vaccine.  I would not recomend anyone to do both together if they are thinking of it.

If you just have a cold, then let it take its course and drink lots of fluids always helps me.

Hi, Pin. . .once you get going on your TKI and life gets back to normal, then start going to see the doc as you would under normal circumstances.  I teach at a middle school, so I pick up bugs all the time.  I rarely see the doc.  Had a nasty cough starting in May that I finally got over a week ago.  Probably should have seen the doc, but didn't, and I'm none the worse for wear.

That said. . .I grew up in a household where you had to be dying before you made an appointment.  My brother's appendix burst because he got appendicitis on the weekend, and parents didn't want to take him to the emergency room, so they waited until Monday.  So maybe I'm not the right person to listen to.  That said. .. I'm still alive and ticking right along.

Hi Pin,

If this is your first cold for our cold and flu season you're doing pretty well. I had a virus last month which took a couple of weeks to get over, went to the doctor as I needed a certificate for work. GP gave me some antibiotics, but they didn't really work just had to get over it myself. Not sure if your blood counts are in the normal range, if so do whatever you would have done prior to your diagnosis.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all

It's good to know what other people do - My general feeling is that my bloods are normal, so I shouldn't worry unless I get a fever, but I seem to recall something I read very early on that said that I should see a doc whenever I get sick (I was pretty out of it in those first few days, so I could be wrong!).

It is my first cold this year (and after starting treatment) but all these things that were so common before, now seem all new again.

Also, I had the flu shot earlier this year so at least I am kind of protected against that!

Hi--

I hate to keep preaching on this subject-- but I strongly feel that all of us CML'rs should be taking a good probiotic.  I personally take DR. Ohirra's probiotics and I rarely get a virus or a bacterial infection-- and if I do-- it is very mild and disappears faster than those who were sick around me!  Here is a short review: http://probioticssup...biotics-review/

Same here - I take a probiotic everyday and also a vitamin C, but sometimes you can't escape getting a virus, particularly when you have someone at home coughing and spluttering over everything,
