hi, I was wondering if tasigna works this fast? I just started my 5th week on it today, had my blood work this morning here are my numbers  wbc 5.6,rbc 4.55

hemog. 14.3, hemat. 42.8, rdw 14.0, platelet 216 !! all the diff. were well in normal range.  I don't see my onc. til next week but the receptionist said whatever I am doing to keep on doing it!! The numbers all look good to me and put me in a better mood!! Please let me know if I am just wishful thinking or if the tasigna really works fast. thanks, prayers to everyone!!!

It's a very powerful drug.  I saw some pretty quick responses with Gleevec when it came to normalizing blood counts and yes Tasigna is supposed to work a lot faster.  The numbers are not likely an error, so in your case it appears to be working well.  Congratulations, I hope you continue to have a good response and get good results back on your tests.

Just thought I would share my experience with you.  Diagnosed at the end of June, 2010.  Started Tasigna beginning of July.   Within two weeks my CBC was normal.  Only major side effect issue was slightly elevated liver numbers (AST/ALT/Bilirubin) but they have either returned to normal or in the case of my bilirubin, just slightly elevated.

In December I had a FSH by blood test and it was normal.

February 1st I had another Bone Marrow Biopsy (FSH and PCR done on it).  I don't have any numbers to present but this is what the report said:

"SUMMARY INTERPRETATION:

Morphology     -Chronic myeloid leukemia (by history), now in morphologic remission.

Cytogenetics     -No evidence of Philadelphia chromosome by conventional karyotypic or FISH studies

Molecular Diagnostics     -No evidence of Philadelphia chromosome by PCR

Conclusion:

Chronic myeloid leukemia in morphologic, cytogenetic, and molecular remission.

There is no evidence of residual chronic myeloid leukemia by any study."

I hope this gives some information at least from one patients results from Tasigna.  I wish you the best!

Paul

I have been on tasigna for about two weeks now and my white blood cound has dropped significantly.  The doctor told me about a month and it looks like it will maybe be less time.  Only problem I am having is an upset stomach after taking the pills.  Had a bad nights sleep last night, but felt pretty good today at work.  Just took the pills and ate dinner alittle over an hour later.  Started feeling bad again and took a prilosec.  I hope to have a better nights sleep tonight.  Next doctor's appointment will be on Monday and can't wait to see if I am close to having a normal white blood count. Afew weeks ago when i was diagnosed I was so scared and right now I feel so much better.  Better understanding, some info from people, and a very good doctor have helped me alot.

Thanks to all who replied!! It seems forever to get the diagnosis, the waiting & wondering. Then all the weekly blood work & everything, thank goodness for this discussion board!!!!! What a wonderful site with so many caring people, all in the same boat sailing along!! I am trying to understand all the things about CML but sometimes I just feel so overwhelmed by all of it. I don't mean to ramble on, just needed to tell all the great people how happy I am to have found this board. Prayers to everyone!!  Granny D
