To those of you who are recently diagnosed with CML. To those who cried when they saw the sticker shock for the drug that is keeping you alive. I understand, I've been there. Last Fall I had been diagnosed with CML, had broken my back, had lost the majority of income, and temporarily lost my family. I had dropped into a deep depression, so deep in fact, that I couldn't eat and weighed less than 140lbs.
I had no options, and so I turned wholy to God for help and my church for support and now things are so much better. My back has healed enough for me to workout, I weigh 190lbs, my income has doubled, I have a good oncologist at the V.A., my wife and I have reconciled, and most importantly my relationship with God through Jesus has strengthened considerably.
Things aren't perfect, the side affects are tough especially the constant fatigue and cramps. As I mentioned earlier I can lift weights again but the cancer wont let me participate in my true love (cage fighting). I miss it but it's a small sacrifice compared to what I had lost last year.
I guess what I would like to say to those newly diagnosed is rely on God and believe me it will get better.
You never know, your CML could be a blessing.
Jeremiah
