Well, my head cold turned into a sinus infection and ear infection so the family dr put me Keflex 500mg.  Does any one know if I can take this the same time as Gleevec cause it says if stomach upset occurs take with food.  I have taken it before but many years ago and don't think it was 500mgs, that's alot to me.  And you know if there is a side effect I will get it, that's just me.  I also was telling her how I shake inside and my legs are very weak and I get that creepy, crawly feeling in them and she said she had other patients complaining about the same thing and their magnesium was low so since I was going for my onc. blood work up when I left her office she had them also check my magnesium.  She said for that you can buy them at the drug store.  Does any one take magnesium and does it help?  Can it be taken at the same time as Gleevec or need to be separated?  I talked to her about the neurontin and she said no way cause it doesn't mix with the elavil I take at bedtime.  And the Elavil is helping with the headaches and my weight and my blood pressure went back up to a decent number, was running low.  I gained 4 more pounds, would like a couple more but not before Sept. 18th.  My son is getting married that day and my dress is a perfect fit.  So if any one has any advice about the magnesium and the antibiotic please let me know.

                    Thanks, dee

p.s. I don't know why the font is so big.  It kind of changed on it's own!!!

Dee,

Please download the Drug/food interaction chart which also shows antibiotics and interactions to any TKI.

About the magnesium, usually you wouldn't take it at the same time as the Gleevec.  If you take Gleevec in the morning, take the Magnesium at night, or vice versa.

For the chart:

The antibiotic I was gives (cephalexin) is not on that list so I can take it with my gleevec right?  I take half gleevec with lunch and the other half at supper so if I take the antibiotic with either I should be ok.  I took it this morning with a bagel and sort of felt awful all day.

   Thanks for your reply, Dee

Drug Interaction Checker:

http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php

It shows no significant interaction.

Thanks Trey!!! I have taken this med before I was diagnosed but never 500mgs.    I am suppose to take at bedtime too and I saw no interaction with my elavil either on that site.
