Is it always true that Gleevec disrupts Melanin production in the skin so a sun tan is not likely... or is it only in some people?

In other words, can a Gleevec taking person get a suntan?

I was out in the sun (not aware) and noticed that my skin darkened up over a few days like it always did.  I had assumed that Gleevec fosters sunburn, so I was surprised.

I'm afraid burning in the sun is like everything else in the great Glivec side-effects lottery.  People can have the full range from no noticeable change to 'burning in a full moon' as someone memorably put it.

Personally I find I burn much more easily, but I do still get a tan if I'm careful.

All the best

Phil

I am one who can burn in the moonlight .  The fam was at the pool and it was my husband who burned.  He is not taking Gleevec.  After about 40 min., which was probably too long, without sunscreen, I slapped some on.  I think it is good to get some sun exposure without creams to get some vitamin D, but I would wear sunscreen for medium to long-term exposure to ward off melanoma.  Who wants to deal with that too?
