Haven't been on here for quite awhile everything has been going great since being dx with CML but just found out yesterday that my co-pay is going up to almost 1300.00 month. My first mail order supply was 85.00 this year but now they are saying it was a mistake and should of been 30% of cost of Gleevec. What  a shock this has been.

My company was bought out this past year by Dow chemical and we got new insurance. I was used to paying 25.00 month with Aetna now I have Cigna. I can't believe they expect people to pay this! I make to much for the co-pay assistance so I guess I will have to go into my retirement funds to get the medicine I need to live.

If anybody has any ideas where I can go to get help I sure would appreciate it.

Debbie

Debbie- I live in constant fear of a change in my insurance. I'm on Tasigna which is $7400 to the insurance company. One option that can help you a little (and I mean little), is to join MyCMLCircle. Doesn't cost anything and they will refund $25/month for a year for gleevec & up to $900/year for Tasigna.

From their website:

  • If you are starting on or currently taking Gleevec 400 mg, you can receive up to $25 per prescription refill for 12 refills. This is a total savings of up to $300 of co-pay assistance per year.
  • If you are already taking a higher dose of Gleevec or your healthcare provider increases your dose of Gleevec, you can receive up to $25 per prescription refill for 12 refills. This is a total benefit of up to $300 of co-pay assistance per year.
  • If you are currently taking Tasigna or should your healthcare provider transition you to Tasigna, you can receive up to $75 per prescription refill for 12 refills. This is a total savings of up to $900 of co-pay assistance per year.

If you have an online pharmacy, they may be willing to do a payment plan.  That is what I do.  Feel lucky they are willing.  You cannot do that at a retail drugstore.  Best of luck.  When Gleevec becomes generic, it should help a lot.  Does your company offer any other kinds of plans?  The one we are on has a high dedeuctible, but once we pay that, all the meds and doctor's fees are covered 100%.

Thanks for the replys. I just joined the CML circle last month. That helps a little. I didn't ask about a payment plan they just said we need 3800 to ship your 3 month supply. My other choice was Aetna PPO and human resources for Dow said it would be the same.

In January I am hoping to get on my husbands insurance because its only 45 a month. I wish I would of known because I would of paid 500 a month to get it.

Boy can I relate. My co-pay for Gleevec went from about $450 a month when I was first diagnosed 5 years ago to $1200 the last time I went to pick it up. As I battled awful side effects, my oncologist is moving me to Tasigna. The co-pay will run about $1450 a month. So once again I am trying for co-pay assistance from Novartis. My last cellular lab three weeks ago had my leukemia cells measuring 18% again, so we don't have time to play around. Praying this time they say yes.... Otherwise.... I just don't know what I will do. I am a single mom, still working full time (ugh) to keep a roof over our heads. Cross
