Is there a problem with interaction of Gleevec with usage of Nexium that anyone is aware of? I've been using Nexium for 4 months to control acid reflux and indigestion with Gleevec. I do not take Nexium within 4 hours of the Gleevec. Thanks. PJF

Hi, PJF,
I don't think there are contraindications for Gleevec but be aware that Prilosec and Nexium can be very hard on your liver as can Gleevec. When my liver enzymes went through the roof I was taken off both Gleevec and Prilosec because of a possible drug-drug interaction on the liver. I'm now taking dasatinib and I only use Tums if I need them. Amazingly enough I've not had any problems giving up Prilosec and I took them for 10 years. I have to wonder why.
Good luck!

Hi: I have had no problem with taking my Nexium and Gleevec. I have been on Nexium for 5 years. They say you should not be on it for a long time, but my doctor feels if its working for me then to keep taking it. I take all my meds together at one time. My Gleevec, Nexium, BP Meds, Diabetic Meds. Never have any problem, but I always eat a full meal first. I take everything in the morning so I can get it over with. I have noticed if I eat a light breakfast that I get some Nausea. It also has not done anything to my liver etc. Everyone is different in how they absorb their meds, so just see how you do.

Be careful about taking antacids with gleevec. If they are taken at the same time or close together the antacids can interfere with Gleevec absorption.
