Hi Fellow CMLers,

Just wanted to ask how many of you seem to be having more upper respiratory problems, chest congestion and infections, tons of phlegm (I know gross) and trouble clearing your throat since you have started G. I am so congested all of the time.

I was diagnosed in Sept. 08 and have been on gleevec ever since and am very thankful to have it but I also have asthma and have been contributing all of my upper respiratory infections, congestion, etc. in the last year or two to my asthma but I read many of you commented that you have been getting more infections and upper respiratory problems since on gleevec.  I wonder if that has caused my congestion as much as my asthma.  My asthma is a level 4 which is the highest most dangerous level and I have been hospitatlized 4 times in the last 6 months so it just seems to be getting worse and the only thing that can help it is steroids.

Has anyone else noticed much more congestion, etc. since on gleevec?  thank you, sandi

Yes.  Got pneumonia 1st month on G.  It was detected on x-ray.  My internest was shocked because he couldn't hear it at all (I had been complaining from the first couple of weeks on G that I was short of breath reading to my kids and talking).  Given CT scan about 3 weeks later because I still had some sort of upper respiratory (hem/onc would not believe that there could be fluid in my lungs because of my age--whatever that means, I guess I am considered "young").  So, I was tested for a pulminary embolism (very scary).  Everything came back clear, but I still have a cough and congestion.  It is mild, but very annoying.  I hope it will go away, but now I am not so sure.  I have also been reading about how other people dealing with CML have URIs.
