Got a question for you Trey. I was scheduled for my 3 month Bone Marrow Aspiration yesterday. My ONC told me there is a lab that does a new test that is suppose to give the same results from blood as a marrow aspiration. I just had an extra vile of blood drawn & I am supposed to find out my results when I go back in 2 weeks.  Have you heard of this? It is supposed to be a brand new test.

Thanks Trey.

Chuck

First, since you were just diagnosed in May, you would not normally need a BMB/BMA until the 6 month point in November unless you are a "high risk" patient.  So the normal procedure at the 3 month point would be PCR and/or FISH, plus other blood work such as CBC and Comprehensive Panel Test.

At diagnosis you likely had a FISH or PCR done on marrow fluid (BMA) since you were having a BMB anyway for diagnosis purposes.  Both PCR and FISH can also be done on circulating blood, yielding similar results, and most labs can do this, but these have been available for several years.  I assume that is what your Onc means unless there is something really new and different (we all would certainly like to know), so ask your Onc for the specific name and description of the test (a website would help).

I would'nt think I was high risk. I have a CBC done every 2 weeks. I know when my nurse was taking my blood she said it was the first time she had ever seen this type test.  I will try to find out the exact name of the test.
