Hi Lucas

I was hoping you'd get a response to your question about lactase enzymes as I have often wondered about it too.

I am lactose intolerant and mentioned this to my treating team when I was diagnosed and put on Sprycel (as the packet insert says to talk to your doctor if you are lactose intolerant). I was told that it shouldn't be a problem but might cause me some stomach upset. I certainly have that but have just put it down to medication side effects. I have never taken Lactaid.

Let me know if you do try taking Lactaid before your TKI as I would love to hear about it :)

I have taken the Lactaid pills and also use the Lactaid milk when making things like mashed potatoes, etc.  It helps, but doesn't completely get rid of my problem.  I'm still "undetected", so it hasn't interfered with my tki.

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

Thanks Antilogical. It's good to hear that Lactaid hasn't interfered with things and that you've had such a great response.

Sprycel is coated in lactose and Tasigna contains lactose, whilst Gleevec does not. I have thought about taking lactase just before the Sprycel to maximise absorption, but have been wary of doing so in case it actually interferes with absorption or causes some other problem.
