My husband has an appt for a colonoscopy next month.  The prep instructions say to take only clear fluids the day before and the day of.   He's been on 400mg Gleevec for the past 9 months and normally takes it with breakfast.  Just wondering how difficult it will be to take Gleevec with no food?  He was thinking of not taking Gleevec at all the day of the procedure and then resume taking it again the following day.  Has anyone had any experience with this?  Thank you!

Husband dx March 2016; 400mg Gleevec started April 2016;

July 2016 PCR 3.06%

Oct 2016 PCR 0.002%

Jan 2017 PCR 0.004%

April 4, 2017 PCR 0.001%

Reduced to 300mg Gleevec at end of April 2017 due to fatigue

July 2017 PCR 0.001%

Oct 3, 2017 PCR 0.001%

Oct 18, 2017 PCR 0.003%

Dec 19, 2017 PCR 0.001%

Never take Gleevec without food.  He could either (1) skip the Gleevec that day, or (2) take the Gleevec with a meal when he gets home that afternoon.  Ask his oncologist which option he prefers.

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

For my last couple of scopes, the prep with clear liquids started mid-day on the day before the procedure.

Missing one day of Gleevec won't do any harm.

You need to be regularly missing it to cause any concerns (at least 3 times every month).

Thank you for the posts.  It now turns out that he will have the scope at a different place so we are awaiting the prep instructions for the new place.  I think we will be able to find a way to get this done with only missing one day.  Thank you again!
