Does anybody have any experience being prescribed antibiotics while on a TKI? If so, what combination? Any side effects?

Last month I had peri-orbital cellulitus, a bacterial infection under the skin around my eye.  My Dr prescribed me 2 antibiotics one for Strep and one for the Staph bacteria.  I can't remember their names right now.  The only side effect I felt was being extra tired and that could of been from the infection itself.  Oh also they messed up my gut biome but that is pretty natural with antibiotics.  I had my regular onc appt. about a week after my regular Dr's appt.  My onc wasn't concerned with the antibiotics I was taking.  My PCR was unchanged, still undected.

I will note I don't have a lot of side effects with Sprycel, mostly water retention and needing a little extra sleep.

I've been on antibiotics three times early on in my CML treatment for sickness. Never had any problems and my onc never had an issue with it. I'd still clear it through your onc before taking just to double check. :)

I was given Cefuroxime for pharyngitis back in December and had no issues. My primary care doctor made sure to check Google for any interactions with Tasigna.  There weren't any. I also checked with my Oncologist just to be sure.

I have taken Keflex (knee replacement) and Doxy (sinus infection).  No issues.  Hem/onc approved of the choices.

Dx: Sudden severe anemia detected 07/2011, followed by WBC spike. CML Dx 02/2012.

Rx: 03/2012-Gleevec400.  Reduced 02/2013 to Gleevec300 due to side effects (low blood counts).

Response: PCR-Und within 7 mo. on G400. Maintained MMR4-MMR4.5 on G300. PCR-Und since 02/2016.

Always check for drug interactions on drugs.com or similar legitimate sites.
