I was thinking the other day (I know, a dangerous pastime).  I was wondering if there had ever been any studies done where multiple TKI drugs were used at the same time. Like for example taking half the normal doses of Gleevec and Sprycel for example.

Would you get the best of both drugs or would it just magnify the side effects and not control the CML?

Kirk, that is some strange thinking this winter has gone on long enough. But oddly enough..............who knows. Everytime I start thinking I get in a whole lot of trouble.I had a really hard time on G and I can't think of one s-e I would trade from the Sprycel I take now. But I take other meds I think if I just took S I wouldn't notice any s-e at all.

I think that's a good question. I've wondered the same thing. I also wonder why don't they also investigate different delivery methods, especially at diagnosis, as oral medication may not always the best method of uptake for some people?

Either way, I always hope the manufactures continue to develop better medications that can leverage the benefits of each drug.

I have seen it discussed over the past couple years.  Here is a report about positive outcome when Gleevec and Sprycel are combined:

http://www.jbr-pub.o...R-2013-0172.pdf

The theory is that Gleevec helps Sprycel in some manner, which is not well understood.

Here is another TKI combination therapy clinical trial which was recently started but canceled for unknown reasons:

Or the shortness of breath from the Sprycel meaning you can't run as fast as you need to with the Gleevec...

I wonder why everyone just isnt started on Tasigna - which by what Ive gathered over the past year (by accounts here and my own personal experience) seems to have the lesser side effects.  Some chemo brain and some hair loss (maybe a bit of fatigue) is pretty much the standard, no?

Yeah it has caused my thyroid to go nuts. I am on a beta blocker waiting on an appointment with an endocrinologist. If I can't an appointment soon my doctor is going to switch me to Gleevec. I am hoping it can be treated and I can stay on Tasigna. The beta blocker isn't working too well.
