Each time I visit my new oncologist he checks my lower abdomen. Does anyone know why they do this.

Checking for an enlarged spleen (left of the belly button).  If they go lower they are looking for enlarged lymph nodes.

Trey thanks. If the lymph nodes were enlarged what would that mean.

Generally, lymph nodes should not be enlarged with early stage CML.  If they are, and the CML caused it, the disease may be in advanced stages.  Otherwise, if the lymph nodes are enlarged there could be a second disease.

My doc still checks my spleen, even though I never had an enlarged spleen and am PCRU. I asked him why the other day, he said it's part of the protocol for when I see him.
