Hello everyone,

After the three month of diagnosis, I had a BMB after to check the initial cytogenetic and molecular response. FISH results shows negative and also a complete haemtological response. My BMB shows all cells are normalized with a slight increase in EOSINOPHILE (8-10%). My Onc told me that nothing to worry here, there may be small infections or allergies.  However my RT-PCR shows t(9:22)PCR negative but a unusual e8a2 BCR-ABL transcript.  My Onc did not even share this information with me until I read the lab results carefully after I got home.  I have to wait for another month to see my Onc again.

So I look up on the internet and realize this is a very unusual BCR-ABL transcript and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Is there anyone in this group has the same transcript and should I worry about this?

Thank you for your input!

e8a2 is a rare type of Philadelphia Chromosome (Ph+), but it seems to respond well to drug therapy from the limited data that is available.  But you should be monitored closely by PCR testing because there is not much data on the issue.  Make sure the labs specify that the PCR must be set up to look for e8a2, otherwise the test will come out negative becasue it is looking for the "normal" types of CML.  You apparently have a good Onc who was able to understand your unusual situation.
