Hi everyone, I don't post much but read nearly every day and have learned a LOT!

My husband was dx last summer, takes 400 mg G, and is doing fairly well.  Today he had blood taken for his 1 year PCR, he has an appt. in 2 weeks with his onc. to get the results.  He had a PCR at 6 months and was at 1.5 log reduction we are hoping for PCRU this time !!  I'm feeling a bit of anxiety about the test results and just wanted to share with folks who would understand.

Thanks so much to all of you for all the knowledge and support.

Joanne-

The PCR tests always send me into a crazy state of mind. Funny that I'm OK until the actual blood is drawn then I transform into this bizarre, fretting, crazy-person until I get the results. If only they could take my blood without me knowing then, ta-da, test results! I try hard to keep myself very well occupied for the waiting period, usually baking something. On the plus side, my family seems to breeze right through.........hmmmm. Full tummies I guess!

Hi Joanne:  Its normal to feel anxiety well waiting for your PCR results.  You have to figure its a biggie to find out how things are progressing.  I have been going through this for 9 years, and still get the jitters over it.  I have to go next week to get mine, and I will be on pins and needles till they tell me my results.  I have been PCRU, and it will be 8 years for me with this test.

I will pray that your husband does well.  We all pray for each other all the time.  Post a message anytime if you need some moral support.  Its just as hard on the caregiver as the person with the CML.  Please let us know how your husbands test results come out.

Joanne-

Good luck on the test results!

What I tell people pretty much sums up the emotional process: The results were better than what I feared, and not as good as what I hoped for!

I had a very pleasant surprise Tuesday. I went in to have bloodwork done. I knew they were going to draw a vial for the PCR test Tuesday, and so I was going through the multiple scenario thinking. After the lab work was complete, I asked for the results from the BMB that was done a month earlier. I went out to my vehicle to read through the stack of papers. The bloodwork on Tuesday looked fine, things are settled out nicely. Next up, FISH results. No mutations, no leukemic cells found. Not unexpected, and good news! Then the BMB results, that looks good, things reasonably normal there. But there was still more paper...

At the bottom of the stack was a PCR report! Apparently my Onc ordered one a month ago when they did the BMB! Good numbers! 3.2 log!! Completely unexpected! So I got the present that Barb was asking for! Results without the expectations or worrying about it. I did go back in to verify that it was OK to run a pcr again, I enjoy good news, but don't see the need to pay for it out of my pocket if the insurance company says it is too soon to run another one.

I plotted up the results. The limits of sensitivity on the test say .01% to .0001%. The smaller number represents a 5.2 log reduction for me. The following chart shows the 3 PCR results that I have had, plus I projected a point for the test drawn Tuesday, and projected out to where 5.2 log would be. I have no idea what normal results look like for PCR vs time. The pink line is just a guess at where it would go if the numbers continue as a straight line (on the log scale).
