My husband was just diagnosed with CML. He also has epilepsy and the doc said his tegretol decreases the effectiveness of Gleevec. Has anyone taken these two meds together?

It doesn't exactly reduce effectiveness, but because it may mildly speed up elimination of the CML drug from the body, less drug may be available in the body.  So this can be overcome by taking a somewhat higher dosage.  Maybe instead of 400mg per day, taking 600mg per day may work better.  But I would wait and see how things go for a while.  These things do not work the same for everyone, so waiting to see how he responds would be a reasonable approach.  Hope he does well.
