My skin rash was worse than I expected. It was head to toe, covering the entire body. The entire back was red/pink and most areas in the body including arms and legs were densely covered with small to large blocks of red bumps. The calves are more sparse for some reasons. It's ichy but not driving me crazy. My onc prescribed MethylPREDNISolone and asked me to stop Gleevec and Allopurinol. The plan is to stop Allopurinol once for all (it was for 14 days only anyways) and put me back on Gleevec once the rash subsides.

The rash is going down now but it fades in and out. At some point, I can't notice it that much but all of a sudden they all appear again (in a dark crimson color).

Has anyone experienced something like this?

Hi Aki,

I didn't require Allopurinol and started on Gleevec alone. My rash was on the backs of my legs, nothing like you're experiencing. Without looking it up it sounds like he has put you on Predisone which will certainly help with the rash. Just wondering when you talk about the rash fading in and out does that happen around the time you have a shower as hot water can make rashes worsen for a while.

The rash started to fade but not as drastically as I had hoped for. It does seem to get worse after the shower and the skin feels warm. In the morning after I was sitting in a shady area reading for a while, the rash almost disappeared on my arms, but they came back when I started to move about. I am wondering if body temp has an effect.

As I've mentioned before, Tasigna has caused me to become extremely photosensitive. See if your outbreaks are a result of being in the sun.

I get a rash that exclusively appears when I'm hot - its worse when I get out of the shower or get really stressed (makes me physically hot) and especially if I have a heat pack on, I turn bright red! Mine isn't itchy though, and it fades away when I cool off.

I also had a sunburn-like rash mostly on my legs, a few months ago. My onc. decided to take me off Gleevec, due to the rash

and severe ankle/foot swelling. I'm currently taking Tasigna, and no longer experiencing ankle swelling or rash.

Seems like it's related. My face got red (never like this before) after being in the sun briefly.

I am wondering if they'll change me to a diff drug. I just hope the damage to the skin is irreversible.

Hi Aki,

Everyone is different, so you won't know what side effects you may get until you switch. Mr_Bill doesn't get any skin issues with Tasigna, but there are a number of people here who do.

It's been the exactly same since I started Gleevec a year ago - I don't think it will go away until I stop or change medication. It's annoying, but I can live with it if I have to.

Gerryl,  I'm on Sprcel and experience the same rash going on 18 months now. I've been taken off for short periods of time for respiratory issues, the rash goes away each time.  Heat and even raw emotional will make my rash worse.  My newest  experiment is lemon juice.  I've been drinking it twice a day and my rash has improved.  What the heck....it's worth a try :)
