My employer has changed health insurance and pharmacy company carriers. My pharmacist just told me my gleevec cost has gone up to $14,000 a month. It had been $5,900 a month - I take 100 mg tablets, 6 tablets a day. Has anyone else found such a profound increase in cost? A few months ago my Gleevec was much cheaper so this second price increase has me concerned. Please tell me what your experience has been. Thanks so much. Donna

Donna,
Mine has not gone up, but I remember others saying theirs had increased significantly, all within the last 6 months or so.
May I ask which insurance company and pharmacy benefits manager you have? Like to know if I should start worrying.

Donna,
I can't help but think that your pharmacist has made a mistake. I could see a small increase but that is in the order of 237%, seems unlikely. Are you able to access your insurance online and look it up in your formulary? Mine tells me what I can currently expect to pay at a retail pharmacy and through a specialty pharmacy.

Tenderheart, My las shipment of Gleevec was the last of Dec 2011 and it was just a little over $5,400.00 for 400 mg table, 30 pills. I get a monthly 30 day supply by mail from Medco. We have Blue Cross Of Michigan UAW RETIREE, we live in Indiana but all auto makers, blue cross hub is in Michigan. It does go up a few hundred dollars ever year, but not thousands.

We paid around $4,500 at Wal-Mart for 90 Gleevec 100mg in December. The 90 Gleevec 100mg that I just picked up at Wal-Mart (1-16-12) was $6,100. We have Medicare/ Humana

That sounds like a mistake, a 30 day supply of 400mg is around $5500. I would suspect they are mixing up the periods. That sounds like a 90 day supply.
