Has anyone developed a Gleevec rash after being on the drug for a while? I'm about the 15 month mark and while my skin has definitely changed I haven't had what I would call a rash. Over the last couple of days I noticed some small bumps on my hand that are very itchy. It's a cluster of three bumps and when I scratch, the whell up and get very red and swollen. I assumed they were bug bites, but now I have another one between my knuckles and one on my forearm. I also have the itch on my other arm, but so far I can't see the bump yet. I would swear they are mosquito bites, but they are coming out of no where and there is no mosquito at my desk. Seems strange to me something like this would kick in later in the game, but I really don't know what to expect anymore. I suppose it could be unrelated to Gleevec, but I can't think of anything else that would cause this.
New side effect?

Dear Lucky,
I know exactly what you mean way over a year ago I started itching behind my right knee.I had been on G for almost 3 years. I can't see it but I get a few bumps now and then.I still have it. I just use cortisone creme. I have to go to the dermotologist every 6 months because I have had several skin cancers removed, I showed it to him he said it was nothing. It doesn't even look like a rash. I'm sure yours is much more annoying then mine I don't use the back of my knees very often. You use your hands constantly. You could ask your pcp for a stronger script of cortisone creme I just use 1% but it comes in different strengths. Good Luck Billie

Hi Lucky,
I've been on Gleevec for around the same time period - I've had a couple more side effects pop in, in the last month or so. I now have a bit of muscle and joint pain and the occassional folliculitis, mind you the side effects I've had from the beginning are still hanging around as well

What do they look like? I get a condition called pompholyx very occasionally , which I also thought was bug bites (but there were never any bugs!). There would be one or a few little bumps on the inside of one or more of my fingers and they were really itchy like a mosquito bite.
Anyway, just another thought.

Wow Pin - thanks for posting that link - I get bumps on my hands that look exactly like that on occasion. They itch like crazy and then break open like little blisters. At least now I know what it is.

Thanks Pin - unfortunately (or fortunately) that's not what it looks like. These look like little small mosquito bites and they are not dense like the picture, they are very sparse, one here, and one there. The worst is my hand where I have three close to each other.
I'm not worried about it, just annoying and will likely use the Cortisone as Billy suggested.
Mostly just surprised to still be getting new stuff showing up at this point. I'd like to think I have what I'm going to have and I shouldn't expect any surprises, but it seems like it is possible for new stuff to show up along the way. Of course there is always the chance it is unrelated to G.

Spoke with oncologist nurse this morning. Rash isn't going away, in fact it is getting worse. She said it didn't sound like Gleevec rash. I tried to google images of Gleevec rash, I couldn't find too many, but what I did find doesn't exactly look like what I have. The ones on my hand are starting to turn to blisters. Very red, itchy and kind of painful. Cortisone does not help and I soaked my hand in Aveeno bath and that didn't help either. So now off to the dermatologist.

Hey Lucky, It really does sound like what I get! I normally only get one or two or three bumps in clusters, they start as looking like bug bites, then turn to blisters, and then the last stage is to dry out and go away completely (this is the least itchy stage too). Anyway, cortisone did help me somewhat with the itch and redness, so if it's not helping you probably best to get a professional opinion
