Ok, so today I found out I have kidney stones. Worst. Pain. Ever.  Apart from that - has anyone else had any experience with this either early in treatment or later?   Just wondering if it could be *likely* due to side effects, or *likely* completely unrelated...

Diagnosed 9 June 2011, Glivec 400mg June 2011-July 2017, Tasigna 600mg July 2017-present (switched due to intolerable side effects, and desire for future cessation attempt).

Commenced monthly testing when MR4.0 lost during 2012.

Hi Pin,

My guess is not related - just bad luck.

I had a CT scan earlier this year and they detected 3 stones in one kidney and 2 in the other.  I don't think they are related at all.

Something to look forward to..............

My guess is it could  be related.  Gleevec/Leukemia can cause a build up of Uric Acid.  This in turn can increase the likelihood of Kidney Stones and Gout.  I have very low grade symptoms of gout, also have had episodes that I thought were small kidney stones.  My Primary Doc was skeptical, Oncologist open minded about .  He said high levels of Uric Acid can definitelycontribute to either.  My Onc has jusrt prescribed me Allopurinol.  I said it was not anything serious yet, he indicated it is better to use a preventative and prevent a seruious episode.  It is worth looking into it once this flare-up passes by.

Good Luck with it, hope you feel better, I hear they are very painful.

Tom

I had a kidney stone while on Gleevec.  It was a calcium oxalate stone, not uric acid so likely due simply to dehydration which I had a very hard time with while on gleevec.  So in that sense I think of it as related.  No problems with kidney stones during my 9 months on Tasigna.

Thanks for the replies everyone - they are now unsure as to what is causing my pain (it's now on both sides so they have ruled out kidney stones). I'm going back into emergency to have an ultrasound in about an hour :(
