I've been off the Tasigna for two weeks now, and my liver function tests still show elevated enzymes.  ALT 104, down from 136, AST 60, bili normal.  How long does it take for the liver to return to "normal" function?  And what does it mean if it doesn't?

On Gleevec my ALT and AST elevated to @ 1500 and 1300 respectively. It took about 7 weeks for them to return to normal. After I stopped Gleevec they continued to elevate for a couple of weeks. I've been on Sprycel for almost 2 years and MMR for 16 months - the switch was good for me and my enzyme level has always remained in the normal range.

I've been told that most oncs don't get too concerned unless the counts go above 100 and then they watch them carefully. I should think your counts should be returning to normal soon.

Good luck to you.

Hi, Mark,

My white counts never budged. Don't worry about that. That sounds reasonable but I would talk to your onc about not raising your Tasigna to more than 600 mg per day rather than the 800 he has you on. I think that is the current wisdom on Tasigna. From what I've read on here many people have liver enzyme blips from T and they settle down. Generally the level is in the 100s, not 30 times normal like mine.

Good luck!
