I had a rough BMB yesterday (if you want to read the gory details, see my response to Josh in "In need of a little reassurance").  I bled a lot through the night (and it turns out I didstain the sheets--through the thick bandage and soaked my panties).  I felt OK today.  So I dropped my husband off at the airport then ran out for breakfast and shopping with the kids.  Some hours after, I feel sick, nauseous, and I have a fever.  Has anyone had a fever after their BMB?  I just had a local, so there are no other drugs in my system to feel sick from.  I don't have the air on because it is 77 degrees F, so maybe that's the issue. However, I am feeling cold/hot, cold/hot, cold/hot, etc.  Just wondering if this is normal.  Maybe I did too much and mistakenly felt I was free because I was not given any restrictions.  I have not been more sore than usual and I am no longer bleeding, but still sport an open wound (no scab).  I am supposed to take the bandage off today and shower, which I did, but since it is leaking a little, I had to put a small bandage on it.  If it this is par for the course, I don't want to bother my onc.

If you feel the same tomorrow you should see your regular doc and check for an infection.  If it is gone tomorrow, don't eat breakfast at that restaurant again.

Teds,  I am sooo sorry to hear of all this....next time text me and we will show up and entertain the little ones while you rest!   Push fluids, rest as much as you can, take some Motrin.   And I agree with Trey--if you don't feel better in the am call the doc and let them know of your symptoms....be sure to talk with an RN or MD---not a receptionist.  Receptionists cannot triage calls, even though they always try.

Next time let's go together to the sedation clinic lab....I'll entertain the little ones, and drive you there and back:)

Your IBF,

Lehrerin:)

Dang, Teds. . .you have been through the wringer again!  That is not fair.  Doesn't sound normal to me, so follow Trey's advice.  Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Hi Teds,

Get on antibiotics pronto.  You have a fever - that's enough data.

If your ANC is below 1.0 - be vigilant.

Also - You should not be bleeding after your BMB - at all!  If your platelets are near 50 - that is a BIG concern.  They should not have done the BMB with platelets low.  Don't mess with this.  Infection is real - get antibiotics.

And consider Curcumin.  (read Margaret's blog and Dr. Aggarwal's articles (M.D. Anderson)).  Curcumin may augment the Sprycel and help your normal cells.

Did I mention get some antibiotics?

Your soul brother.

p.s.  I just got back from Cozumel.  I ate at La Perlita's.  Fish was great.  Tons of bacteria - Mexican style.  Kills U.S. bacteria.  So consider heading to Mexico.  Will cure anything.  Avoid hurricanes.   The drink - not the weather.

Diagnosed 11 May 2011 (100% FiSH, 155% PCR)

with b2a2 BCR-ABL fusion transcript coding for the 210kDa BCR-ABL protein

Sprycel: 20 mg per day - taken at lights out with Quercetin and/or Magnesium Taurate

6-8 grams Curcumin C3 complex.

2015 PCR: < 0.01% (M.D. Anderson scale)

2016 PCR: < 0.01% (M.D. Anderson scale)

March        2017 PCR:     0.01% (M.D. Anderson scale)

June          2017 PCR:     "undetected"

September 2017 PCR:     "undetected"

Hi Teds, that does sound really rough - bmb are hard enough to get through without any extras - I hope you feel better soon. One thing though, in my handouts that they gave me when I was diagnosed said that I needed to see a dr if my temperature goes over 38 degrees Celsius (around 100F).  Do you have a thermometer at home? It might give you a better indication of what you are dealing with - otherwise, something else that might help is drinking some fluids (warm or cold depending on what you feel like) - when my temperature was slightly raised they told me to do this and it did help. All the best, P.

Diagnosed 9 June 2011, Glivec 400mg June 2011-July 2017, Tasigna 600mg July 2017-present (switched due to intolerable side effects, and desire for future cessation attempt).

Commenced monthly testing when MR4.0 lost during 2012.

2017: <0.01, <0.01, 0.005 (200mg Glivec, Adelaide) <0.01, 0.001 (new test sensitivity)

2016: <0.01, <0.01, PCRU, 0.002 (Adelaide)

2015: <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, 0.013

2014: PCRU, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01, <0.01

2013: 0.01, 0.014, 0.016, 0.026, 0.041, <0.01, <0.01

2012: <0.01, <0.01, 0.013, 0.032, 0.021

2011: 38.00, 12.00, 0.14

Hi Teds,

If it is not an infection and platelet issue, it might be a bit of shock from the whole experience. I know I would have pulled the covers over my head and spent the next day in bed if it had happened to me.

Oh Tedsey, the hits just keep comin!

Mrs bled like a stuck pig after two of them, and her counts were relatively "normal" at both occasions.  We feel yer pain.  She also has had them and not bled but a few drops.  It makes no sense, no rhyme no reason to it.

Take care of the fever, but watch the anti-biotics.  Anti-biotics are suspected in my Mrs sudden onset myelosuppresion.

Let the docs know of yer fever now, the internet is no place to get stuff fixed like that.  No fever is a good fever, and doubly so for any of you beautiful peoples.

If you have a fever, I think you should call the doctor today, I personally would not wait.  Probably nothing, but you shouldn't take chances.

Hope you feel better soon.

Tedsey, how could anyone hurt you.  Not sweet, caring Tedsey.

I hope you feel better today and that the fever has subsided.

I had a tooth extracted yesterday and it bleed more that ususal,

but I am o.k. today.  I had to stay up most of the night with gauze

in my mouth.  No fever, though.  Call your oncologist, please if

you are distempered.

Take care. I will be thinking of you.

Thanks so much everyone.  My fever is down to 99F, so it is close to normal.  I think I fought off whatever during the night.  Still nauseated, but it seems to intensify when the kids press against the BMB site.  Weird connection.  I think Dunkin Donuts is off the hook (that swanky breakfast joint).  No one else is sick.  But my son just gave birth to the Rock of Gibraltar (very painful poo).  He has been suffering for days.  I would guess that he may have been in worse pain than I.

I just never bled so much after a BMB.  It was really unsettling.  My PLT were 51, so I was prob. high enough to clot.  Anyway, hearing about your experiences and your input really helped.

Take care all,

Tedsey

Teds,

Sorry it was so rough for you.  Glad to hear the fever is going down.  I'm not surprised if you find pressure in that area causes intense feelings elsewhere.  I know my stomach lurches every time the stream of water in the shower hits it. I've got other parts of my body that when active, somehow produces an electrical zing in the back of my hand, far, far away from the original site.  I'm guessing you've got an irritated nerve ending or two around the BMB site.

Take care and try to give yourself a rest!  I know, really hard to do with little ones, but at least rest when they rest.  Housework, dinner, etc,. can wait.  There's always the pizza man.
