Hi, I wanted to share that I am a 50 year old female and was diagnosed with CML 6 months ago (November 2011) and I am taking Gleevec and doing good. My 51 year old brother was diagnosed with CML 3 weeks ago, (May 2012). We were so surprised at all of this. Maybe we should be part of some short of a study on this?!

TK,
Those with CML do not have the JAK2 mutation unless they have CML and also have ET. Both ET and CML are called MPN diseases, but they are very different and actually unrelated. Sometimes early stage CML is misdiagnosed as ET due to the early high platelets in CML before the Philadelphia Chromosome reaches detectable levels in the marrow. But if your husband has the JAK2 then he very likely has been properly diagnosed with ET.
