Hi CMLer's,

I was diagnosed 3/4/10 and have been on Tasigna for 5 months after being on Gleevec.  I am having shortness of breath, tingling lips, face and my hands were going numb today. Anyone out there having the same issues?  I was afraid to go on T because of heart issues that are related to the drug, not sure if I'm being paranoid or I should do something about these weird feelings.

Thanks

S

For a time about 2 months after I started Tasigna I was having problems with shortness of breath. I know that is a fairly common problem around these parts.... At least for some people at some point during treatment.  I have been on Tasigna for about 6 months and I haven't had anything new like that pop up, but EVERONE is different when it comes to these meds. I can't remember having a significant tingling feeling, but one of my hands is colder than the other sometimes. It's always good to be safe and talk to your doc about your symptoms. Good luck. Hope you're feeling good right now! -Josh

You should ask your doc to check for fluid around the lungs (chest cavity edema).  The numbness and tingling is likely a separate issue, and can be a side effect of TKI drugs for some.  Here are previous discussions, and you can search on "peripheral neuropathy":

Hi everyone.    I have another question about Tasigna. My husband was dx in April and has been on Tasigna since the beginning of May. He had had no symptoms before treatment. Then he went through several weeks of mild headaches and pretty severe fatigue. But then things were going so well. He was feeling great. No side effects. His counts were getting back to where they should be and BAM!!!!  The past 2 weeks have been really bad. He is having terrible headaches every day and nausea to go with them. He is feeling terrible. We go back to the onc in a couple of weeks but I am wondering if we should go sooner. He really wants to try to stick with Tasigna but I am not so sure. Has anyone else taking Tasigna had this happen? And did it get better or did you switch to another drug? I am hoping for encouraging info but any would be welcome. Thanks so much.

That can happen.  The body is trying to figure this all out.  Maybe he could get permission to take half dosage for a week or so.  Also, don't completely ignore unrelated issues (allergies, etc) or combination of the drug and something unrelated.  Don't know, just personal experience.
