Hi All,

I got a CMP done last week and another one today. I have been on Tasigna for about 4.5 months and now have slightly elevated bilirubin. Has anyone else experienced this? My bilirubin is 1.8. All of the other stuff on the CMP came back in normal ranges (other liver levels, lipase, amylase, urine test...etc...) In other news....My white count is finally up to a normal range. 4.2 and my Hb is 14.6! Also, my plts are slowly creeping up. From a low of 60 up to 124. Not necessarily normal, but way better than 60. I know Trey always says that your CBC doesn't have a lot to do with your CML status, but I do feel good that this stuff is slowly ticking up. Thanks for your help everyone. -Josh

Hi Josh

I just had my counts done today as well (first time in 4 weeks).  I've been on Tasigna for just about 2 months now (400mg twice a day).  My last two tests which were done in mid-late May had me at 1.1.  Today it was up to 1.8.  My ATL was also high for the first time at 85.  The physicians assistant with MD Anderson that reviewed my results with me this morning didn't seem too concerned about it yet.  From the other research I have done I think the bilirubin can go higher before it becomes a big concern.  Also, in a study done comparing Tasigna with Gleevec, 53% of the participants taking 600mg of Tasigna a day and 62% of people taking 800mg of Tasigna a day saw increased total bilirubin (not sure what the definition of increased total bilirubin was).  So it seems like it is pretty common and something we just need to try to not stress out about the next time we get our labs done.  I don't go back again until July 28th so I'll have to wait until then.

Also, congrats on the improving blood counts.

Stephen

Sounds like your blood making factory is getting back into gear.  Congratulations!

Josh,

I have been on Tasigna for a year now and have experienced the same higher than normal bilirubin (2.3 last time) and higher AST/ALT (63/184 last time). My Onc lowers my dosage to get them normal again.  I was only on the 600mg/day the first 2 weeks of treatment.  Took 2 weeks off meds, then resumed to 450mg/day.  Been on that dosage the rest of the time.

Josh,

Haven't had high bilirubin myself, but my 3 kids had it when born.  Sunlight will help break it down, but I'm not sure how much you'd get if you're slathered with sunscreen to prevent a Gleevec burn!
