My first flow cytometry labs were done by my local ONco/hemo. The total for those bills was $10,055.00. Leaving me to pay $1215.00 I spent 4 days at MD Anderson in Houston,tx and this test was redone. My entire 4 days was only $8900.00. Any suggestions on how to fight this lab and get this reduced. I've already gotten my insurance to re figure their payment because I was owing $2195.70. This lab is in Alpharetta, GA. How crazy is our health care system?

Regarding the Flow Cytometry test, it is not a "required" test for diagnosing CML. It is generally only needed when the BMB shows high risk factors, such as a high blast count or other indicators of advanced phase disease. If someone is diagnosed in Chronic Phase, then the Flow Cytometry is not really necessary. So I would ask why it was done at all given the expense.
Refer to the NCCN Guidelines for CML Treatment to see when Flow Cytometry should be used for CML:

Trey,
This lab was done before any Bone marrow biopsies. I wasn't given a choice or told how high this lab work be. But I did think that the genetic part of this lab is what dx CML to follow by the bone marrow. I guess my questions is, who should be responsible to pay this bill. My local onco?? I don't think I'll get very far with that. Any suggestions. Maybe I'll just tell this lab to write it off cause I can't pay it???
