I've been going back and forth about some supplements and one in particular that contains a high amount of vitamin C.

I have heard mixed things about anit-oxidants in general and vitamin C in particular.  While we all know they are good for you in general, the question I have is with regard to whether or not they reduce the effectiveness of Gleevec.

This study says specifically that vitamin c does reduce efficacy http://www.ncbi.nlm....pubmed/18829561

I also know that in reality a lot of people take vitamin C and it does not impact their treatment.  So I am trying to get an idea of what is an acceptable amount of Vitamin C.  For those of you who are taking vitamin C, how much are you taking each day?

The supplement I am looking at has 450 mg of vitamin C in it (750% DV).  So it is highly potent when it comes to vitamin C.  I'm trying to figure out if this is just too much.

Thanks,

That article just says that Vit C  has a negative impact on Lymphoma drugs.  Although it mentions Gleevec in the article, it provides no evidence nor conclusion that Gleevec is negatively affected.  In fact, the acidic nature of Vit C likely enhances Gleevec uptake from the stomach and intestines if taken at the same time, as I generally try to do.  I have taken a daily Multi and an extra 500mg Vit C (probably 600mg per day total) before dx, during my 5+ years on Gleevec, and still today.  PCRU for nearly 5 years.  I don't believe the anti-Vit C hype.  Neither do I believe Vit C will cure me.  I just believe it helps make me healthier overall.

Trey,

I was curious since you are currently taking 200mg of Gleevec, (I think for  2 or 3  years now?), and you are PCRU for 5 years.   How do your other CBC counts fair, mostly in normal range, or below, etc?  Also was wondering the difference in side effects, from when you were on 400MG and then reduced to 200 mg?

Is there any one thing or combination of things, you would attribute to taking 200 mg of Gleevec and maintaing a PCRU for so long?

I see you mentioned the multi vit  + C, is there anything else?  Do you know of others who also take 200 mg and are PCRU?  Just thought I would see if you all had something in common.
