Hi everyone,

So, a good friend of mine (an amazing 5+ yr cancer survivor who went through an incredible two-part battle) highly recommended this product to me.  He takes it and believes in it -

The guy on the site seems very, ummmm, "aggressive" and it really sounds too good to be true, but I'm reading pretty decent reviews of his stuff around the Internet.  I acted on impulse within days of my CML CP diagnosis and bought a bottle of the SuperFood Plus Powder, but I haven't even removed the protective packaging yet.  I'm staring at it on my desk as I author this post and am contemplating sending it back.

I guess the bottom line is that (1) we've got CML, (2) we know the root cause of the disease, and (3) SuperFood isn't going to eradicate the leukemic stem cells.  Regardless, I have this feeling that any little bit of enhanced and viable nutrition can help one's cause - provided that it's honest & reputable and doesn't have any known issues with the TKIs.

I'm curious - do any of you all use Schulze's stuff?  Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks so much for any and all feedback.

Dan

Hi Dan,

I'm not familiar with this product, but I will make two suggestions, that you may already be aware of.

1) you should not take anything while on treatment in the way of supplements unless you have cleared them with your oncologist.  It is important that your doctor know what you are taking while on treatment.

2) I would recommend holding off on introducing anything like this until things stabilize for you.  It is important early on to get a good response to the TKI drug.  If you are not getting a good response, then decisions need to be made quickly about changing treatment.  You will not have the luxury of saying "well maybe the TKI does work, but this supplement I am taking may be getting in the way, let me stop taking it and wait another few months to see what happens".  I think once you have see that treatment is working and you have hit some of the major milestones, at that point you could start to look at adding some things in.  At that point it would be a little easier if you start losing response to say that maybe it has to do with the supplements.  If you take them now and you are not hitting milestones, then it makes it harder to know why.  Are you not hitting them because of the drug or some supplement that you are taking that is getting in the way?  Chances are it is fine and will not be an issue.  I tend to be conservative in my approach to this stuff, so you just have to ask yourself if you want to be in that position.  The next few months are important in determining how your treatment is going to work out, so again if it were me (and it was me, I also wanted to add supplements early on) I would hold off a while.

Best of luck

That makes sense ... you're exactly right.  The Superfood will continue to sit in its original packaging on my desk for now.  I do drink a bit of Boltfarm's Green Goodness and will continue to do that in moderation - it's not on the extreme end like Superfood is, so I imagine that it's probably fine.

Appreciate the reality check on how to deal with early treatment monitoring and response.  I needed it!

Hi Dan....I don't know a thing about Superfood, but just wanted to pipe up.  My other half is 5 weeks into the ponatinib trial and they were VERY specific when he started it that he wasn't to take any kind of supplements, especially herbal supplements.  Don't know what's in Superfood, but I agree with the advice above that you don't want to mess with supplements unless you talk to your doctor and get approval.

Beth :-)
