I had to find out what DTTMOIAM meant, too!

All 12 biopsy samples normal.  Fizzy falling down juice here I come!

OMG, GerryL, those almost made me spew my coffee all over my keyboard and that would be difficult to explain to my IT guy!

I've got to send those to Steve! Ironically, just at the time that Phil mentioned possible prostate issues, my husband was dxed with prostate cancer. Fortunately, it appears it has been caught early, probably due to the fact that he has dealt with benign prostatic hyperplasia for the last few years. He's planning robotic surgery at Mayo late summer, early fall.

Anyway, that put a comical spin on everything he has been going through.

That is truly wonderful news, Phil! I'd send a happy dance video but Marnie traumatized me with her spangled tights video and I start hyperventilating when anyone mentions YouTube!

Pat, sorry to hear about your husband, but glad they caught it early.  My father-in-law went through 2 or 3 bouts of prostate cancer, and is still up and running at age 93.  The radiation was very tough on him, though.

Is cancer becoming more prevelent, or was I just naive and/or clueless before my own diagnosis?  Seems like people are being diagnosed with some form or another every day!

All the best to you and your husband.

Marnie

Pat,

I am so sad to hear about your husband.  And everyone in my family with prostate cancer is still alive and kickin' years and and years over a decade later (and cancer-free)!  Sending good vibes and best wishes to both of you.

Here is blessings and best wishes to all of us who suffer from vairous forms of this horrendous malady.

"Is cancer becoming more prevelent, or was I just naive and/or clueless  before my own diagnosis?  Seems like people are being diagnosed with  some form or another every day!"

Marnie - I feel the same way but as my wife put it the other day when we were having this conversation, she said she didn't notice how many people drove blue station wagons until she got one, then suddenly they were everywhere.  So I think we are more aware of it.  I also think as we get older it is inevitable that we hear of more cases because more people we associate with are likely to get it.  Sadly the reason my wife and I were talking about it was because I had just gotten a message from my sister that one of her dear friends was just diagnosed.  It is really tragic, relatively young mom (late thirty's early forties) had breast cancer 9 years ago, and had a double mastectomy.  She's been fine for the last nine years, got married had children, goes every year to be checked everything seemed fine.  Recently developed a cough, which was initially thought to be allergies.  After a short time with things not getting any better they did a chest x-ray.  She has Stage IV metastatic disease.  The cancer has invaded her lungs and bone (sternum).  She has basically weeks, maybe a few months to live and they are telling her there really isn't anything they can do for her.  Her treatment plan calls for "Indefinite Chemo".  My sister is devastated.  I know the woman and her husband and I have been quite upset about it too.  It is so friggin awful.  For the first time I felt survivor guilt which is kind of silly, I mean who knows how long I'm going to survive for, she survived 9 years, we'll see if I even make it that far!  Very upsetting indeed.

I agree with your blue station wagon theory, and I'm sure you're right about age.  A good friend of mine was just diagnosed with a brain tumor, and has undergone surgery, chemo, and radiation.  It was a shock to all of us in our very tight-knit kayaking circle of friends.  Had another friend diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. . that's a nasty one. . . and another kayak buddy just underwent his second transplant for multiple myeloma.  Sheesh!

HI Phil

That's great news. Now you just need to get your heart checked for all that stress you've been through.

Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed.

Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams.

If I didn't drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered.

Then I say to myself, it is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver. ~Jack Handey

Hi Pat,

Bad news that your husband has prostrate cancer, but good news that they caught it early.

For some reason I'm thinking your husband would be praying that there wouldn't be a brown out whilst they were doing the robotic surgery, he's probably attached to his bits and pieces.

Thanks to all for the good wishes.

Pat, glad they caught Steve early.  Robot surgery is certainly what I was thinking in terms of if mine had come back positive.  The survival rates for early prostate cancer nowadays make Glivec look like IFN so you still have bragging rights and can go 'Huh, call that a cancer?' to him - in the same way as you can say 'Call that a biopsy?'  I'll be keping my fingers crossed for him, but I'm sure all will go well - as long as the electricity stays on!

Regarding everyone's 'lot of cancer about' comments, there's a lot of truth in the blue station wagon theory, and also in the friends getting older theory.  Another really big factor though, is the improvement in medical care that means that we are all living so much longer.  In the old days no-one got a second cancer because they didn't survive the first one.  Nowadays the average person is probably going to live through several things that would have killed their granny before they cash in their chips.

Phil

The flying monkeys appear to have attacked our web site for a bit or I would have gotten this out much sooner.

Thanks to you all for your concern and well wishes for Steve, I will pass them on. After 38 years I'm kind of attached to his "bits and pieces", too, so I will definitely be having a conversation with the electrician that day!!
