morning Audrey!
ok, I was on Gleevec for 2 years. As of this coming March I will have been on Sprycel for 2 as well. The switch was at first scary, then amazing for the first year. Took time but soon all the horrible side effects from the Gleevec disappeared, one by one. No more pigment loss on my arms, skin is no longer thin as rice paper and I can go out in the sun again. I also don't have to plan my day, or schedule shopping trips etc., around the bathroom! My stomach even eventually healed (which really took some hard work by my onc since I could no long rely on the protonix). Took me exactly one year to reach the big "O" but I got there and held it for almost 7 months. Now I just bounce around it but still very close. The only bad thing about the Sprycel (maybe?) is that the peripheral neuropathy eventually became much worse and I now have motor involvement as well. The shakes are a real irritation as is the foot pain and the weakness in my right arm. The burning ache in my lower back is a bummer but it is more a nag then anything else. Overall I am really happy with the switch. Exactly how well I am doing? I will find out when I go for my next appointment later this month.
Have a great Super Bowl weekend everyone!
GO PACK GO!
