HI Trey,

I hope you ll be able to give me some insights into my mom's PCR test result -  "Ratio OF BCR- ABL / ABL Transcript was detected to be 17.147% in  Leucocytes  of  the specimen  "

She has been on Gleevac for almost 4 months and am not sure what this test result mean.

Hope you will be able to help a little.

Thanks as always for your support and knowledge.

You should ask the Onc if they have an equivalent log reduction value for the result, and whether it is an International Scale result.  The raw score is not so meaningful.  Also, did she have a PCR at diagnosis?

Hi Trey,

Thanks a lot for your reply, I discussed with the Onc today and he said that she has achieved almost 1log reduction so far. She has been taking the medicine for close to 4 months now. I am not sure what to infer from this result. Hoping you will be able to help me.

He said our target is to achieve a 2 log reduction i.e. CCR in 12 months.

She has been on 400mg Gleevac and he has increased it to 500mg.

He says only 60% people achieve CCR in 12 months but they still lead normal lives ..

Please help me in understanding this report.

My wishes go out to everyone out there and to you Trey.

God Bless

Surabhi

Surabhi,

Your Onc is giving you good information.  Your mother is responding to the Gleevec, which is the important part.  A 1 log reduction is about average for 4 months, so it seems like she is doing well.  The extra dosage may help speed up the response.  A 2 log reduction is roughly equivalent to CCyR (CCR).
