I know this is probably a dumb question, but does anyone know of any studies done on Sprycel in relation to bone damage, calcium/magnesium absorption, etc.?

Anyone heard yet if Sprycel poses the same risk to bones as Gleevec?

Hi vwoyak,
It might be a little bit early for that to be identified? It seemed to take them till 2006 before it was written about for Gleevec.
One thing you might be able to do is when they do your bloods is to get hold of the results. I've got a copy of the Chemistry (serum) results with my BMB Report and I can see how my Calcium and Phosphate levels are tracking with each blood test.

Sprycel actually promotes bone growth. Gleevec and Tasigna can inhibit it. This is related to the SRC inhibition that is unique to Sprycel.

ONE LESS THING TO GO INTO THE WORRY BOX, YEA Thank you Trey! I knew if anyone could dig this out it would be you! This is important to know especially for us gals that are getting a bit older. The Gleevec is a potential double whammy for us and many are already on meds to head off osteoporosis (fortunately not me ) or taking extra calcium/magnesium because we were originally on Gleevec.
Thanks once again for the info Trey
