My husband has his 6 month testing in Januray.Has a scheduled BMB and when I look at his lab orders for the PCR blood test dr checked CBC w/diff,RTIC,BCR/ABL PCR,LAPK

and LD. I was wondering why no FISH BCR/ABL ??? Are there any others that should be checked also ? Dr said FISH wouldn't be very accurate because the lab is to far away?

We are in Hawaii and the lab for the PCR is sent to the West Coast. Any thoughts  ????

Being in Hawaii does not affect lab testing capability with FedEx.  FISH specimens are viable for up to 48 hours, same as PCR samples.  But his PCR was already fairly low last time (about .3%), so the FISH is not absolutely necessary, and the PCR can tell the story.  A FISH would be nice to have just to confirm a Complete Cytogenetic Response (CCyR), but a 2 log reduction on PCR would show CCR.  I would add a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel test to check on a whole bunch of blood quality issues:

Hi Trey,

Thanks for the info on the CMP - I'm going to ask my GP to organise it since my Specialist has gone on holiday for five months and I don't see him again till May. Since I've reached CCyR and not having too many issues with Glivec, he probably figures I'm good to go for six months.

Thanks again Trey !  I will check w/ the doctor (or check off the box myself). I didn't go with him on his last check up..... He gets upset that I ask to many questions, I just wish the doctor would answer like you do then I would't have

to  !! It's like she speaks a different language ??? O well, have a great new year !!!!!
