I am just curious how the BCR-ABL/1000ABL is converted to BCR-ABL/ABL (IS%). I was looking ay my previous results today and was curious how my BCR-ABL/1000ABL seemingly went in half (0.66 to 0.28) since my last test, yet my BCR-ABL/ABL (IS%) only went down a very small amount (.051% to .047%).

15 MONTH BCR-ABL/1000ABL: 0.87

15 MONTH BCR-ABL/ABL (IS%): 0.150%

18 MONTH BCR-ABL/1000ABL: 0.72

18 MONTH BCR-ABL/ABL (IS%): 0.114%

21 MONTH BCR-ABL/1000ABL: 0.66

21 MONTH BCR-ABL/ABL (IS%): 0.051%

24 MONTH BCR-ABL/1000ABL: 0.28

24 MONTH BCR-ABL/ABL (IS%): 0.047%

Diagnosed Age: 28

0 Month PCR = 87%

3 Month PCR = 1.2%

6 Month PCR = 0.64%

9 Month PCR = 0.26%

12 Month PCR = 0.21%

15 Month PCR = 0.15%
18 Month PCR = 0.11%

21 Month PCR = 0.05%

24 Month PCR = 0.04%

27 Month PCR = 0.01%

Each lab has its own IS conversion algorithm.  So we cannot tell you how it should be converted.

But your lab is probably using the Cepheid GeneXpert BCR-ABL Assay equipment and reagents, since its results are sometimes expressed in the way you described.  The lab needs to do the conversion since IS is a unique algorithm for each lab based on its own averaged data.

Otherwise it makes no sense to us.  PCRs were not intended to be used for patient diagnostics and disease status monitoring, but it is all we have when we are past CCyR.

Interesting, thanks for the response Trey!
