I just started Tasigna 5 days ago after being on Gleevec for 10 years. The headaches are pretty strong.

Can I take Ibuprofen for the headaches with Tasigna?

Thanks,

Carrie

Carrie:

If your platelets are low, stay away from Ibuprofen.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) is a safer bet on Tasigna.  I try to avoid any other medicines during the fast window as well.

On Tasigna, you cannot eat anything for at least one hour after you take the medicine and you cannot take the medicine until at least 2 hours after you eat anything - so the fast window is at least 3 hours around each dose.  Food intensifies the bio-availability of Tasigna and side effects can be significantly magnified.

Yes, I am doing the fast window.

I am experiencing headaches, body aches, winded, tired, and just overall not feeling well at all.

I am in teacher training right now. This is going to be a tough year teaching school. The stomach aches are horrible. I did not know

this would be so intense. I am trying to push through it all.

Tylenol for the aches.

When do you get the stomach aches? Are they really stomach or intestinal If it's bloating after eating, you could try DigestGold with ATPPro (digestive enzyme) before meals and some source of probiotics (supplement, yogurt).  These helped me a lot when I was having bloating and stomach pains.  Also, chewing on fennel seed after a meal helps with bloating.  I seem to have outgrown most of these issues so I no longer take these supplements, but they did help at the time.  Perhaps it's the lower dose or perhaps my body is just adapting to the medicine.  Hard to say.

Do your best to give it some time - many side effects wane or go away after a while.  And if you have rapid response, you can discuss dose reduction with your onc.

Good luck Carrie

Thanks to all,

My stomach aches seem to be more after I eat so maybe it is bloating.

I do plan on hanging in there, but teaching school (August 9th is the first day) and these side effects do not make for a happy teacher.
