Now that Price is confirmed as Secretary of HHS, the fireworks will begin.
Most of the plans proposed by the GOP consign patients with pre-existing conditions to high-risk pools.

They should be investigating these generic manufacturers, they had no R&D costs, yet they are selling the generic for nearly the price of the brand, for no other reason than profiteering. Sickening.
But I seriously doubt an investigation will happen, not when you have a government (both parties, Sanders being one of the exceptions) which is bought and paid for.

did you notice that Apotex is now selling generic Imatinib in the $2,000/mo. range? ... so the price of the generic is coming down ... but it isn't yet widespread ...

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.
In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.
longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation. GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.
Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams
Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.

When enough CML patients realize that it is in their longterm best interest to purchase their generic Imatinib from the lowest-priced source, the price of the generic will be driven lower, but not until then. As it is now, the price of the generic is not important to most CML patients as they are covered by insurance and only have a small copay regardless of the price. Medicare patients, however, are forced to deal with the reality of the TKI price, having to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket even before getting to the point where they only pay 5% of the retail Rx price.
