Probably a stupid question, but does/has anybody experienced what they perceive as delayed healing of wounds, mouth sores, zits, etc?

I cut and bleed much more easily now and it takes weeks for cuts to heal - so yes, with me I am experiencing longer healing times with cuts.

Tendons and ligaments take longer to heal, especially with Gleevec.

thatguy - I definitely notice delayed healing time, with just about every bruise, cut and scratch I get.  

 

I attributed mine to my wonky blood counts, not sure if there is any correlation or not.

Thanks guys. Yeah XX, that's what puzzles me, since my counts have been normal (knocking on wood). I feel like cuts on my legs linger longer, I have a zit (for sure a zit) on my cheek that blew up enormous, and has been slowly reducing in size-but I've had it for like 2 months. Additionally, my mouth tissue seems more fragile, as sharp/hard foods rip me up pretty good...I'm at quite the odds with my appetite

Didn't know if this was another lavish frill of the "L" , tki, or just aging. Loving the day-glow shade of white skin I now sport though all summer months, too. That's fun.

For me yes. Wounds take longer for me to heal.

I actually have one now that will not heal, not a proud moment for me, telling this here in the forum, but its located right next to my anus, and since that area is vulnerable once pr day during bathroom visits, the wound usually rips open.

Been like that for months now (4-5 months), bleeding on and off, asked my GP for help, gave me a cream of some sort, tried it, did not help much, maybe time to go visit her again

Oooof, that sounds excruciating. Im sure its a difficult area to heal under any circumstance. I wonder if sutures should be considered? No visit to a colorectal surgeon?

For a while now I've had what I think is, in layman's terms, called skiers thumb. I've been putting off having it seen about-- until I jam it into something and about go through the roof as a result of the unnerving pain.

We went to see the movie, Passengers. In the movie there is a Doctor pod that scans you and tells you how many health problems you have. I told my husband, it would tell me there is nothing wrong with you! Yes, that was sarcasm directed at the times we've all heard, "I don't think it is caused by your CML or TKI."

Me too. My dermatologist, after freezing off several suspicious areas or cutting things off, always adds a couple extra weeks to the standard return time in the hopes I'll be closer to being healed on my return visit. Bruises take forever to go away.

Teddy B, maybe try keeping the sore coated with Vaseline. I had something similar, although different area and the Vaseline was the only thing that allowed it to heal. Took a while and not the most comfortable, but got the idea from what we do for our grandkids when they get a diaper rash. Hopefully it might work for you.

Its no fun at all, thats for sure. Yes, my doctor talked about making a small opening, remove any infections, inflamation etc clean it, and then suture it back up.

Something else that might help, Metamucil (taken far away, daily, from your tki) eliminate any straining.

I don't know which TKI TeddyB is on, but if it's Glivec they probably don't have an issue with straining.  More likely blast damage and/or shrapnel wounds.

 

As to the original question, when I went to half dosage the improvement in both my healing times and general skin fragility was dramatic.

I have contstant inflammation and my injuries take ages to heal. I have tendonopathy and it takes forever (note it takes a long time in a regular person too) my heel is still sore from an injury sustained in April 2015. I get bursitis in places I didn't even know bursa existed (shins anyone?).

Good to know it can change with a reduction in dosage Phil, looking forward to testing that theory...
