Chris, I have very good insurance thru my job. Unfortunately will pay $800 a month to keep covered for the next 13 months until Medicare kicks in. No longer working due to TKI side effects. Thought a trip to Canada might be cheaper although I have other stuff going on that makes it advisable to keep medical insurance.

Would your insurance company cover you for buying from Canada. I know it is close to $4000 Aust a month here to buy Gleevec without our National Health scheme, you have to be a citizen to get the subsidy. Plus you would need to be seeing one of our docs to get a recognised script.

Great news Campanula!

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.

In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.

longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation.   GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.

Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams

Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.

Gerry, thanks for response. I thought the monthly cost was much lower in Canada. No, insurance only covers meds available in US. Guess I'll bite the bullet and be glad there's an end in sight to the high premiums.
Way to go, campanula!

We pay just under $40 a month here for Gleevec. Reminder is covered by the government through our higher taxes, would think Canada is similar.

I'll be starting Veenat Imatinib today. I hope everything goes well. Did anyone tried this before?
