Ok I have read on here of people having Sharts and  blaming them on the drugs we take.  Is that legit, can these drugs cause sharts and if so how.  Also if so is there anything we can do something about them....they are a pain in the you know what,........thanks

Gleevec = sharts.  I was glad to switch to Sprycel.  That's one side effect I'm happy to trade.

Start a probiotic, include something like metamucil in your diet helps put a bit of bulk in so to speak, check your diet some takeaway coffees weren't good for me and always carry some gastro stop with you. :-)

Yeah, well I'm on Tasigna, I had them a few months back and they went away and now they have returned....   I have done a lot of fiber and no change.  Haven't tried a Probiotic yet so that may be next.  Just don't understand how the meds can cause such a thing.  Never had them before starting Tasigna...thanks

Ahh, the fun posts we used to have on here when most all of us were on Gleevec! Never knowing what you were going to get when you felt the need to pass gas! I don't miss those days, but I do miss the humor that made it tolerable.

Anyone getting the opposite effect?  I have been on Sprycel for one year now and I have noticed that it's "stopping me up more" so to speak.

Yes, MarCap73, I have that one. Made worse by the iron that I take for anemia. Tried several things...Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar in orange juice and aloe vera juice in water but would get better and quit. Right now I quit the iron pills and things are better but once the next cycle hits, I may be anemic again. CML and the Change just seems to amplify each other. But it's better than the alternative.

Edited: Oh and the mineral Magnesium seems to help too. Search Scuba's posts for more info on it.

You might have diarrhea due to drinking milk on empty stomach and not because of the medication. I noticed I turned lactose intolerant over time

Nope, definitely not diarrhea.  also on iron pills for anemia.  But on the iron pills Ferralet 90 which have a built in stool softner.  But still not enough so am also on a over the counter stool softner with a mild laxative.  And even with that it barely works, lol lol Diarrhea is not part of the problem lol lol....I have been on the same meds for the past 2 years...this is the second time the sharts have visited me.  just hope it only sticks around for the 2 months like it did last time....that's how my side effects go, here for 2 months and then on to a new one...

A friend told me about something she learned at the veterinarian. On the shelf were cans of pumpkin for dogs to help with either of the two digestive problems. She tried it (1/4 cup of pumpkin daily) and reports good results.

Tiredblood - Thanks for a laugh today, by triggering the memory of my late, great Bernese Mountain Dog, Toby, who did indeed benefit from cans of pumpkin puree on numerous occasions. It works!

Dx July 2009 on routine physical.  WBC 94.  Started Gleevec 400 mg Sept 2009.  MMR at 2yrs.  Side effects (malaise, depression/anxiety, fatigue, nausea, periorbital edema) never improved.  Kidney issues developed because of Gleevec.  Switched to Sprycel 70 mg in Aug 2011.  Above side effects disappeared or improved.  Have been MR3.5 - 4.5 ever since.  Two untreated pleural effusions followed by one treated by stopping Sprycel Jan 2017.  After 9 weeks, PCR showed loss of MMR; re-started Sprycel at 50 mg and in 3 months was back to <0.01% IS.  Pleural effusion returned within a couple of months, same as before (moderate, left side only).  Stopped Sprycel 50 mg for 12 weeks; pleural effusion resolved.  At about a monthoff the drug, PCR was 0.03; at 11 weeks it was 2.06 - lost CCyR? Have returned to 50 mg Sprycel for 3 weeks, intending to reduce to 20 mg going forward.

Start a probiotic......

For a second I thought you said shart a probiotic....so I wondered why you Aussie ladies were loading probiotics like suppositories and sharting them out.  Although it seemed like an interesting party.  Then I read it again and was disappointed.

If you're looking for a good, easy way to prepare pumpkin, try mixing a can of pumpkin into pancake batter.  I would add a little vanilla and cinnamon or nutmeg also.  The pancakes are a little thicker, but it really is good.  I used to do this to sneak more fruit/veg into my kids diet when they were younger and I still do it because we all like it.
