What happens to the research animals that were tested with the various TKIs in clinical trials? Are they destroyed afterwards, observed outside of clinical trials for residual effects, or anything else?

Maybe I'm having a bit of survivor guilt. Can I adopt one of these animals? :P  And, just remembered, I actually took up donations for "Send a Mouse to College" many moons ago.  I was duped.

Research studies on mice show they volunteer for CML research and are glad to do so.  One mouse said "It is indeed a great honour to support the critical research needed to develop new targeted therapies which will help our fellow earthlings, even though humans are lesser creatures."  That mouse died shortly thereafter from strangulation by a lab worker who heard the interview.  But the sentiment was nice, I think.
