See    Cancer Breakthrough: Scientists find drugs to target 'Achilles heel' of leukaemia

"Current therapy for CML is with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) which effectively hold back the disease, but do not cure it.

If the therapy is stopped, the leukaemia relapses in the majority of patients, requiring CML patients to remain on treatment for their lifetime."

Experts say these drugs, as well as being costly to administer, can cause a number of side effects including diabetes and vascular problems.

It is the dual issues of cost and toxicity in current CML treatment that has driven this particular piece of research.

The study, Dual targeting of p53 and c-Myc selectively eliminates leukaemic stem cells, is published in Nature.""

Sounds like some really exciting news for us CML and AML patients!  Hope they have this thing cured in the near future.

I also like this part:

"We also could not have achieved such an excellent result without all the generous stem cell donations from both CML patients and other members of the public, so it is important to say thank you to them."

I guess those BMB's came in useful.  ;)

Wish they would have made mention of what drugs were used so we can track the progress in trials though.   :(

Anytime an article references another site I like to dig and verify (since they did not provide a link):

Great....I made myself forget about diabetes.....my blood sugar is going up. I can't think of who is was, but two billionaires just gave 500 million to cancer research. I think the head of Nike donated the amount that found TKI.

Maybe some good news is on its way.
Diagnosed 3/2014 WBC 28 Non detectable within 3 monthsGleevec 400 mg 5/2014 one hour after dinner really improves nausea300 mg 12/15/2016200 mg and 300 mg Gleevec 2/25/2017 (after 3 years on Gleevec) For last four months taking 300 mg per day. Last CMC showed liver enzymes elevated, went to a good Naturopath and he recommended 4 Tumeric, 10,000 mg Vitamen D, and 3 milk thistle (silymarin) daily. Also use One<p>Day Detox Dandeloin tea, and Nettle Tea and a slice of ginger every day...in two months liver tests were below normal.Janis
