This bill will change the 10 year-old Medicare Part D to allow Medicare to negotiate for drug prices. It is important that we all contact our congresspersons to encourage them to vote to for passage of this law.

You can read more about it in the Friday, April 15, Des Moines Register. It is the first article on the opinion page, or just Google H. R. 3061 to learn more.

This is a very important bill and I cannot urge strongly enough that we need to take action and contact our members of congress!

Feds should negotiate Medicare prices with drugmakers, seniors say http://usat.ly/1Sp3TJQ

The federal government should negotiate drug prices for Medicare and force drugmakers to explain how they set drug prices, according to a survey out Tuesday of people 50 and older by AARP, the nation's largest organization of people this age.

The survey showed more than 93% of adults 50 and older said they favored the Medicare price negotiations, a policy advocated by presidential candidates Hillary ClintonBernie Sanders and Donald TrumpPresident Obama included such price negotiation authority for drugs known as biologics and "high-cost drugs" in his recent budget proposals .

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.

In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.

longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation.   GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.

Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams

Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.

New Plan to Cut Prescription Drug Costs Meets Stiff Opposition from Industry http://bit.ly/1VUkSHA

Calls for containing soaring prescription drug costs are all the rage on the campaign trail, and lawmakers from both parties have been conducting hard-hitting hearings on Capitol Hill to expose the worst pricing practices of major pharmaceutical companies.

But with a powerful, well-financed drug industry strongly opposed to major reforms, the prospects for any significant change in the way drug companies do business is relatively slight, at least for the foreseeable future.

That became abundantly apparent on Monday when the Campaign for Sustainable Rx Pricing — a national coalition seeking legislative and administrative changes to control rising drug prices — issued a set of policy proposals.

Members of the coalition include the AARP, the American Hospital Association, America's Health Insurance Plans and Walmart. The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, the drug industry's trade group, has spurned participation in the effort. Yet even without the drug industry's participation, the proposals unveiled today are relatively tame and don't include some of the most controversial measures that have been touted to bring down the cost of pricey new drugs for treating cancer, Hepatitis-C and other life-threatening diseases.

They should be spending more time and effort on defeating the current politicians who are opposed.  Very few politicians in office will change their mind this year.  Hopefully, Congress will have more members who are supportive next year.
