Does anyone know how to get a health care provider to do this...?
I don't think it is done in the US any more, except maybe a specialty lab.
The usefulness is also questionable.

can you do it on your own?
1) Insert large needle into yourself
2) Suck out vast quantities of gunk
3) Hold syringe tube up to a bare light bulb
4) Count the gleevecs -- they will be the orange thingys
5) Divide Gleevec count by ML of fluid
6) This provides Gleevecs per ML
7) Use this for whatever purpose you have in mind, which likely will not be useful

Diagnosed Oct 2013 Started 600mg of Tasigna on Nov 4th. Lowered dose a few months later to 300mg due to side affects stayed here declining PCR until March 2015 small jump from 0.0072 to 0.0083 scarred my doc into full dose of Tasigna again 600mg(been miserable since) but reached PCRU 06/15/2015(next test) and have been there ever since. Hoping to have another little one. I have the support of my doc to go off anytime, just scared to jump. might go two years PCRU but he said it wont make much of a difference. I just figured I could possibly go into a trial while preggers if I got the two years behind me.
Nov 8th 2017 went off Tasigna
Dec 1st PCRU off TKI
Jan 5th PCR Detected .0625
Feb 1st PCR Detected .7815
Added 8-6 grams Curcumin daily in Feb
March 3rd PCR Detected 3.2646 YIKES!
stopped trying for baby after February reading. will start new TKI march 16th 2017 (Sprycel)
FYI I'm not done trying for my last little one.

Just visited my onc today for the regular three month check. He said they have a new test for imatinib plasma level and he ordered it with the rest of my blood work. It should be interesting to see what the result is.

Hey Trey,
You don't need a needle anymore. All you have to do is shine a bright light at your hair to see how may orange thingys are present and then do some math!!!

Here's the result from my imatinib test, for what it's worth:
Comments from the Doctor's Office
Your lab results indicate an excellent response to treatment.
We should repeat your lab testing in 3 months.
Your imatinib level is on the low side, but this is consistent with the lower than normal dose that you are taking.
Narrative
Imatinib levels over 1000 ng/mL are associated with a higher likelihood of achieving a major molecular response. See literature for additional detail.

Testing performed using mass spectrometry. This is a lab-developed test and not evaluated by the FDA.

Standard range is 500 - 2000? That is quite a large range.
Are you really taking 200mg daily? If so, the plasma test seems to be spot on. What is your current PCR?

Yeah, I've been taking 200mg per day for over a year now. My PCR has been basically flat for that period. My current PCR is .039%. Over the last year, the high was .061% and the low was .028%.
If the dose to plasma level is linear then I'm guessing that the standard range correlates to dosing from 200 to 800mg per day?
