Using generic CML cancer drug could save many millions of dollars http://bit.ly/1UwawLR
New research directed at physicians suggests there's little risk and a huge financial upside of putting CML patients on a generic form of Gleevec. The study, published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, estimates that the cost of treatment could drop to $6,000 annually. The data comes from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
NOTE: The cost of treatment is already $6,000/yr. ... in Canada, and almost everywhere else on the globe
Imatinib (Gleevec) Cost/yr. USD
U.S. Gleevec $132K
U.S. Generic Gleevec $124K

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.
In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.
longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation. GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.
Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams
Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.
