Hello!

Hey, I have been on 800 mg. Tasigna daily for the last 16 months. I am doing well on the medication and side effects have been minimal.

Lately, I have been having eye irritation that can only be described as like having hay fever... but I don't get hay fever and it's not hay fever season where I live, anyway.

I get a lot of sticky junk in my eyes. They water like crazy all day, and itch so much I rub them raw. Although my photo here shows me with a Borg implant, I don't think it's the cause of the irritation...     :D   :P

Anyone else have this side effect with Tasigna? Any success treating it?

I have it with Gleevec.  Every morning I take two tea bags, put them in a clean mug or something, run the hottest tap water over them until they are saturated.

Then put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes, the colder the better, then put a bag over each eye it does help, for at least 15 minutes, they should be frozen.

It helps the swelling and the watering, you can do it more than once a day.

This is the worst side effect I have with Gleevec.

Diagnosed 3/2014 WBC 28 Non detectable within 3 monthsGleevec 400 mg 5/2014 one hour after dinner really improves nausea300 mg 12/15/2016200 mg and 300 mg Gleevec 2/25/2017 (after 3 years on Gleevec) For last four months taking 300 mg per day. Last CMC showed liver enzymes elevated, went to a good Naturopath and he recommended 4 Tumeric, 10,000 mg Vitamen D, and 3 milk thistle (silymarin) daily. Also use One<p>Day Detox Dandeloin tea, and Nettle Tea and a slice of ginger every day...in two months liver tests were below normal.Janis

jmoorhou, thanks! That sounds like a very clever and effective treatment. Simple and sweet.

The longer you keep them on the better...and it's residual if you do twice in one day, sometimes the next day they are good.

If you're at work, you can get tea all ready and then put them between your eyelids, in fact try to do that each time, it helps with the redness.

It also helps with eye bleeds, I wanted to shoot myself when I had those, doesn't happen anymore.

I actually see much better after I've done this. It's the caffein, it shrinks the blood vessels.

Merry7of9 - You might want to just check with an eye doctor, to make sure you don't have an ongoing infection of some kind.

Dx July 2009 on routine physical.  WBC 94.  Started Gleevec 400 mg Sept 2009.  MMR at 2yrs.  Side effects (malaise, depression/anxiety, fatigue, nausea, periorbital edema) never improved.  Kidney issues developed because of Gleevec.  Switched to Sprycel 70 mg in Aug 2011.  Above side effects disappeared or improved.  Have been MR3.5 - 4.5 ever since.  Two untreated pleural effusions followed by one treated by stopping Sprycel Jan 2017.  After 9 weeks, PCR showed loss of MMR; re-started Sprycel at 50 mg and in 3 months was back to <0.01% IS.  Pleural effusion returned within a couple of months, same as before (moderate, left side only).  Stopped Sprycel 50 mg for 12 weeks; pleural effusion resolved.  At about a monthoff the drug, PCR was 0.03; at 11 weeks it was 2.06 - lost CCyR? Have returned to 50 mg Sprycel for 3 weeks, intending to reduce to 20 mg going forward.

The side effect I've had related to eyes is extremely dry eyes.  No eye gunk though.

Merry,

Hugh might want to try splashing water in your eyes first thing in the morning.  I found that works well, so maybe it will help Hugh.

You might want to try Zaditor.
That has helped me tremendously.
