Supposed to go on vacation today, had to cancel It ๐ My back is killing me, looks like I strained some muscle on the back left side, when pressed it hurts, when I move, caugh, sneeze or any straining I do. It really sucks, it's been hurting for the past 10 days but mostly when sneezing and coughing, it did got better at some point so I went to the gym and now it's gotten even worse, I'm not even sure what pain medicine I can take with 600mg Tasigna, what's safe to take?
Thanks!

Dina36, where on the left side? Exercising, when there is back (muscle) pain, is exactly the wrong thing to do. Naproxen sodium (Aleve) taken midway in between Tasigna doses should be safe. Don't attempt to stretch the muscle as the rebound will only be more painful. The safest thing to do is to use an ice pack and immobilize the muscle as much as possible.

At the earliest opportunity, and whenever possible, lower your TKI dosage; TKIs are toxic drugs and the less we take longterm the better off we are going to be ... this is especially true for older adults.
In hindsight I should have started my dosage reduction two years earlier; it might have helped minimize some of the longterm cumulative toxic effects of TKIs that I am beset with.
longterm side-effects Peripheral Artery Disease - legs (it's a bitch); continuing shoulder problems, right elbow inflammation. GFR and creatinine vastly improved after stopping Gleevec.
Cumulative Gleevec dosage estimated at 830 grams
Taking Gleevec 400mg an hour after my largest meal of the day helped eliminate the nausea that Gleevec is notorious for.

If it was me I'd see the DR and get some real pain medication.

pain can be your friend; it's telling you where the problem is. blocking the pain with heavy duty meds isn't solving the problem; it's only masking it. from what you said about sneezing adding to the pain, the probability is high that you have a pinched nerve ... ice the area down to first quiet the problem.
upper back/lower back? which muscle?

Maybe a broken rib?
Dx July 2009 on routine physical. WBC 94. Started Gleevec 400 mg Sept 2009. MMR at 2yrs. Side effects (malaise, depression/anxiety, fatigue, nausea, periorbital edema) never improved. Kidney issues developed because of Gleevec. Switched to Sprycel 70 mg in Aug 2011. Above side effects disappeared or improved. Have been MR3.5 - 4.5 ever since. Two untreated pleural effusions followed by one treated by stopping Sprycel Jan 2017. After 9 weeks, PCR showed loss of MMR; re-started Sprycel at 50 mg and in 3 months was back to <0.01% IS. Pleural effusion returned within a couple of months, same as before (moderate, left side only). Stopped Sprycel 50 mg for 12 weeks; pleural effusion resolved. At about a monthoff the drug, PCR was 0.03; at 11 weeks it was 2.06 - lost CCyR? Have returned to 50 mg Sprycel for 3 weeks, intending to reduce to 20 mg going forward.

I'm having terrible back pain myself, checked the web and it said moist heat is best...you can get a really nice non gel thing at the drugstore if you look under moist heat...you put it in the microwave. And of course use pain meds also...

if a pinched nerve is at the root of the problem, applying heat is the absolute worst thing you can do, as it will greatly aggravate the situation.

It's a lower back towards my left side and I know it wasn't very smart of me to go back to the gym with back pain, but It felt better....now paying the price for it.
My kids are on Spring Break this week and we all should be on vacation now
Not sure kat73 sometimes it does feel like a broken rib, it hurts when I press on it, cough, sneeze, move (sigh) Just don't remeber hitting that area although I do all kinds of workout, thought that's good for me.
It doesn't hurt when I'm sitting still without moving so that's what I've been doing all day.
Not fun when we are in pain

I've become a fan of Curcumin when pain is caused by inflammation (your back pain appears to be inflammation):
http://www.huffingto...r_b_285669.html
You need to take more than the typical dose, however, to get bioavailability. Meriva is quoted in the article I linked above. I take one that has pepper complexed with it that helps get Curcumin into the bloodstream.
Curcumin has done wonder for my arthritis aches (eliminated it) even though I take Curcumin primarily as an add-on to Sprycel so I don't have to take a lot of Sprcyel and still get a very deep CML response. The anti-inflammatory benefit comes with the spice.

I believe those pain medications are hard on the liver so don't rely on them too much, go see a physical therapist (not a chiropractor) and learn how to take care of your back. I had to go see one last year (before my CML diagnosis) and they taught the McKenzie Method for fixing your own back problems.

I am on Gleevec, but I have been having occasional painful back spasms. Whether the Gleevec has anything to do with it I don't know, but I just asked my doc on Monday what is safe to take. She said to stay away from Alleve or Naproxen - could cause liver function problems. Tylenol OK, aspirin OK. I have found Bayer Back and Body (aspirin with a little caffeine added) is very good! Hope you are feeling better.
